Proof of Reserves
Proof of Reserves vs a Financial Audit
Proof of Reserves and a financial audit are different public-record artefacts. A PoR snapshot is a dated disclosure about published reserves methodology and coverage. An audit opinion, when it exists, is limited to the named entity, period, and standard in that report. VenueVeritas does not upgrade PoR into an audit, and does not invent an audit where none is published.

Why it matters
- Marketing pages often say “audited” when the public artefact is a PoR dashboard.
- Readers then treat a Merkle-tree page as solvency, segregation, or going-concern assurance.
What each artefact can support
A published PoR snapshot can support: that an operator published a reserves disclosure on a given date, with a stated methodology and stated scope, plus the primary source VenueVeritas used.
A financial audit can support only what the report itself states: entity, period, standard, qualifications, and whether the opinion is unmodified. It does not automatically cover every affiliate or every product under the brand.
How VenueVeritas keeps them separate
PoR rows live in the Proof-of-Reserves domain. Audit claims are not inferred from those rows.
If no audit opinion is on the published snapshot, the audit question stays unknown — not “failed” and not “passed”.
Limitations
- This guide does not assess the quality of any named auditor or attestation provider.
- Unknown remains unknown.
